Using the Email Editor

Build emails that look good on a computer and on a phone. Add headings, text, images, buttons and columns, attach files, and link straight to a program's registration page.

You use the email editor when you compose a message in the messaging center, build an email template, or design your email header and footer.

Find your way around

Your email is on the left and the tools are on the right. When you drag a tool into your email, it becomes a block. Every block sits inside a row, and a row can hold several blocks side by side.

  1. Drag a tool from the right into your email.
  2. Click any block to edit it. Its settings, such as colors, spacing and alignment, open on the right.
  3. To move a block, drag it up or down.

⚠️ Deleting a block leaves its row behind as an empty space. To remove it completely, click the row and delete it too.

Add and format text

Drag in Text, click it and start typing. Select words to make them bold or italic, add a link, or turn them into a list.

Formatting carries over when you paste from Google Docs or Microsoft Word. If any of it doesn't, select the text and fix it with the text toolbar.

Add images

  1. Drag Image into your email.
  2. Click the image, then click Upload Image and choose a picture from your computer.
  3. Use the settings on the right to change its size, alignment or link.

The editor shrinks any image that's wider than your email.

To link text, select it and click the link icon in the text toolbar.

To add a button, drag in Button, click it, then set its text and link on the right.

When you compose a message, you can send members straight to a program's registration page.

  1. Click the button you want to link. For text, select the words and click the link icon in the text toolbar.
  2. Set Action Type to Register for a Program.
  3. Pick the program from the Program menu. It lists only programs with open registration. If you're linking text, click Save.

Add attachments

You can add attachments when you compose a message, but not in templates or Email Settings.

  1. Drag Attachments into your email.
  2. Click the block. In the Attachments panel, click Browse or drag files onto the panel. To reuse a file you uploaded before, search under Or choose a file you've already uploaded.
  3. Click Add files.

Each file can be up to 10MB. You can attach PDFs, Word, Excel and PowerPoint files, images (JPG, PNG and GIF) and ZIP files, among others. Members get a download link for each file.

⚠️ You can't click Send this message or Send test email until your files finish uploading.

Your organization's header and footer come from Messaging, then Email Settings.

  • Compose a Message: New emails start with your header at the top and your footer at the bottom. You can edit or delete them for one message without changing your saved header and footer.
  • Email Templates: Templates don't include the header and footer. Compose a Message adds them when you use the template.
  • Email Settings: Design your header and footer here. See the article Customize Your Email Settings.

Preview and test your email

Click the eye icon at the top of the editor to preview your email on a computer and on a phone.

To see it in your inbox, click Send test email. The test goes to your own admin email address.

Compose on your phone

In Admin mode in the LeagueApps mobile apps, the composer opens in a phone layout. New emails start with a headline, a message and an Attachments block. Tap the headline and message to replace the sample text, and tap Attachments to add files.

On a phone, you can't remove the header and footer.
