Registration Insurance and Accident & Injury Protection (Gap Medical), powered by Vertical Insure, are optional add-ons that can appear in your members’ registration checkout flow (depending on program eligibility). Registration Insurance helps protect registration fees if unforeseen circumstances prevent a participant from finishing a season, event, or activity.

Accident & Injury Protection (Gap Medical) helps reimburse certain out-of-pocket medical costs if an accident or injury occurs during a covered activity. If you or your members have questions about a policy or need help with a claim, please contact Vertical Insure at support@verticalinsure.com.

Registration Insurance

What is registration insurance?

Registration Insurance is an optional add-on that members can purchase in the registration flow. This insurance can reimburse registrants and participants for their non-refundable registration fees if they are forced to cancel due to unforeseen and covered circumstances. The most common covered reasons include injuries, illness, and traffic accidents.

⚠️ Registration transaction fees are not covered by registration insurance.

How does registration insurance help our organization?

Refund requests are a major pain point for many organizations. Those fees are often required to cover basic operating costs and to generate revenue. However, it is also difficult to maintain no-refund policies, especially when a participant has to cancel for a legitimate reason.

Registration insurance offers an alternative solution by reimbursing covered individuals while organizations keep the initial registration payment.

On average, the number of refund requests an organization receives decreases by 46% when registration insurance is offered at checkout, protecting your revenue and freeing up administrative time and resources.

Should I update our organization's refund policy in the waiver?

If you would like to update your refund policy in your waiver to account for registration insurance purchases, follow these steps.

How does reimbursement happen when the member is part of a payment plan?

Your members will be able to submit claims for registration insurance via Vertical Insure’s customer portal (customers.verticalinsure.com) or by emailing support@verticalinsure.com.

After the claim is approved:

The insurance company will reimburse the member for their loss (the amount already paid), and the insurance company will pay the organization the remaining amount not yet paid by the member but owed to the organization. This feature is now available in New York as of 4/9/2025.

In New York state for any policy sold prior to 4/9/2025, the member would need to continue making payments per the payment plan schedule, and would be eligible to file a new claim each time they submit payment. Alternatively, they can also choose to pay off their balance and then submit a single claim for reimbursement.

Which of my programs will have registration insurance offered in the registration flow?

At this time, most non-tournament program registration flows will offer registration insurance, except for session-based grouped programs.

All registrants can purchase registration insurance (regardless of whether it is offered in the registration flow) at https://landing.verticalinsure.com/leagueapps.

Do you offer team registration insurance?

Teams can protect their non-refundable team registration fees and receive a refund if the event is cancelled as a result of unsafe playing conditions due to weather.
 
In the unfortunate event of weather-related cancellations, covered teams receive refunds based on the number of games played versus games guaranteed. This simplifies the refund process and ensures teams are reimbursed quickly and fairly.
 
Teams can purchase team registration insurance at https://landing.verticalinsure.com/leagueapps.
⚠️ Because this insurance is purchased post-registration, invoices in the LeagueApps management console will not have a record of team registration insurance purchase. Teams can submit claims via Vertical Insure’s customer portal (customers.verticalinsure.com) or by emailing support@verticalinsure.com.

What is Accident & Injury Protection (Gap Medical)?

Accident & Injury Protection (also known as Gap Medical insurance) is an optional add-on that helps reimburse certain out-of-pocket medical costs if an accident or injury occurs during a covered activity.
 
This policy is designed to complement the member’s existing health insurance coverage, especially for families on high-deductible plans.
 

How does Accident & Injury Protection help our organization and members?

Accident & Injury Protection can help members manage unexpected medical bills by reimbursing eligible out-of-pocket medical expenses when a covered accident or injury occurs.
 
For your organization, offering this protection during checkout can reduce administrative burden related to “what can you do for us” situations after an injury, by giving members a clear path to coverage details and claims support through Vertical Insure.
 

Which programs will have Accident & Injury Protection offered in the registration flow?

Accident & Injury Protection may appear alongside Registration Insurance during checkout for programs that meet eligibility requirements.
 
To confirm whether a specific program will show Accident & Injury Protection in checkout, check the Program Preferences page or contact support@leagueapps.com.
 

Can members purchase Accident & Injury Protection after registration?

Yes. If Accident & Injury Protection does not appear during registration, members may still be able to purchase it directly through Vertical Insure: Accident & Injury (Gap Medical) landing page
⚠️ Because this coverage is purchased post-registration, invoices in the LeagueApps management console will not have a record of the Accident & Injury Protection purchase.
